PrecisCx President Kari Anne Donovan, PE, CxA; Director of Commissioning Harry B. Koons, III, LEED AP, CxA; and Senior Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation (CQV) Engineer Stephen Obermeier attended the Building Commissioning Association (BCxA) Leadership Summit March 16-17, 2022, in Charleston, South Carolina. The event brought together the industry’s leading advocates for building commissioning from across the country. Kari serves as Director-at-Large on the BCxA International Board of Directors and as an officer and past president of BCxA National Capital Chapter; Harry serves as Professional Development Committee Chair; and Steve serves on the National Capital Chapter board of directors. PrecisCx is a 2022 sponsor of BCxA.

With 45 in-person participants and another 25 virtual attendees, the interactive summit discussed the future of commissioning. Discussion topics, meant to attract opposing views, included how technology is changing commissioning; the pandemic, indoor air quality, and health air; sustainability, including resiliency, Net Zero, and electrification; commissioning performance, risk awareness, and controls; the ‘holes’ in whole-building commissioning; and economic concerns related to inflation, supply chain delays, modular construction, and workforce shortages. Chapter and committee reports and review of BCxA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives also were addressed at the summit.

BCxA is an international nonprofit organization with more than 1,200 members from the commercial building industry who are committed to the highest standards and practices for commissioning. For more information or to become involved with BCxA, visit https://www.bcxa.org.
